🌍 Happy Earth Day! Simple Ways to Celebrate in the Kitchen This Week

Hey Reader,

Just wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy Earth Day! 🌱

This holiday always reminds me that small, everyday choices can really add up—especially in the kitchen. Whether it’s reducing waste, cutting back on plastic, or using up those veggie scraps, I love finding simple, joyful ways to take care of the planet right from home.

If you’ve browsed my recipe posts lately, you may have noticed a green section called Tera’s Sustainability Tips. It’s where I share quick ideas to help you cook with less waste—like how to store herbs without plastic, what to do with veggie peels, buy from bulk bins, or how to make your food last longer. Think of it as a mini Earth Day moment in every recipe 💚

Speaking of waste-free kitchen efforts... I realized I haven’t bought plastic wrap in more than five years and have significantly reduced our trash through composting! 🙌 A few simple tools helped me get there:

  1. Beeswax wraps - Use just as you would plastic wrap, and you can even re-wax them with these bees wrap waxing tiles.
  2. Food Huggers - I love these so much! They're so convenient for when you have half a lemon, lime, onion, or tomato (just to name a few). I also use these to cover canned foods that are half-used.
  3. Stasher bags - These bags are such a great investment! They make storage so easy and seal tightly enough to freeze foods, replacing the need for single use zip-top plastic bags. Trader Joe's makes an awesome Stasher bag dupe for less, so if you have one nearby, be sure to check that out. Stasher also makes these silicone stretch lids–perfect for using as you would plastic wrap!
  4. Mason jars - You can find these pretty much anywhere! I mostly buy them from my local co-op or grocery store because they're more cost effective, and they have so many different sizes. I use them for everything from pickling to bulk food storage to salads.
  5. Lomi - We love this composter so much. It's more of an investment, but it's helped us take the guesswork out of composting because it can break scraps into compost in just a few hours. Plus, it's $240 off right now! A simple countertop compost bin is also a great way to get started with composting :)

I’d love to hear—what’s one small swap that’s made a big difference in your kitchen? Just hit reply and let me know!

Warmly,

Tera
